Aloha everyone from the beautiful island of Maui. Feel very fortunate to be spending a few relaxing days beside the ocean, snorkeling and swimming with giant sea turtles.
Lots happening in our San Diego theatres too, so am looking forward to getting back into the swing of things next week!
Neil Simon's Brighton Beach Memoirs and Broadway Bound will open on September 22 and 24 at The Old Globe. I always get a thrill when I see Austyn Myers' photo on promotional materials. This lovely young man continues to do so well in theatre!
Very fitting generosity from the Old Globe in giving 7,500 free tickets to school kids to attend one of the fall/winter productions, to celebrate the Globe's 75th Anniversary. Donated in the name of the late Donald Shiley who, with his wife Darlene, gave so much to theatre education these tickets will perhaps give a child his/her introduction to theatre. I know that Donald, and Craig Noel, would be well pleased!
Moxie is very thrilled to be presenting Lee Blessing's Eleemosynary, opening on September 4 and running through 26th at their theatre in El Cajon. I loved this play when I saw it several years ago. Fabulous cast this time too...Rachel VanWormer, Rhona Gold, and Julie Sachs who has been gone far too long from our stages while she raises her lovely daughter.
If you love the talent of Sutton Foster as I do, then you can enjoy a whole evening with her on October 1 at the Balboa Theatre at 8pm. One night only! Book your tickets now! Civic Theatre Ticket Office; 1100 Third Avenue (619) 570-1100.
Here's a wonderful event put on by Stone Soup Theatre, on September 18, 6:30 - 9:00pm at Grace Point Church,13340 Hayford Way, San Diego 92130,Tix: 619-850-4250. The Mac Frampton Trio Benefit Concert for Haiti with funds going to: www.hishandsforhaiti.org

ion opens Jack Goes Boating by Bob Glaudini on September 18 (previews start September 15) and runs the production through October 9. Claudio Raygoza directs Rhianna Basore (a welcome return!!) Sara Beth Morgan, Steven Lone and Brian Mackey. Currently being made into a film, this new play is about four flawed but likeable lower-middle-class New Yorkers who interact in a touching and warmhearted play about learning how to stay afloat in the deep water of day-to-day living. Laced with cooking classes, swimming lessons and a smorgasbord of illegal drugs, Jack Goes Boating is a story of date panic, marital meltdown, betrayal, and the prevailing grace of the human spirit.
Miss Saigon will open at the Moonlight Amphitheatre on September 8 and run through 25th. This haunting tale that is a modern re-telling of the story of Madame Butterfly is set during the Vietnam war and will close Moonlight's outdoor season. Directed by Steven Glaudini, musical direction by Charlie Reuter and choreography by Carlos Mendoza with a mega-talented cast, this will be another hit for Moonlight. Please note that performances start at 7:30pm!
And that's it from me for this week. Hope to see you soon. Love, Jenni
